The predominate theory is that
Bucktown got its name in the early
1800's from its predominantly Polish population's knack for raising
goats of whose the male name is buck. Bucktown houses the largest
population of artists in the Midwest, most of whom live in an area
called Gallery Point. Bucktown is an ideal neighborhood for the artist
in anyone with loft apartments, art galleries, the Bucktown Arts
Festival in August, and the Round the Coyote art festival in September
which celebrates the neighborhood's creative spirit. Lately, Bucktown
has been growing in popularity and attracting a diverse group of
residents who enjoy the neighborhood's many restaurants, bars, clubs,
boutiques, and churches. In Bucktown transportation is made easy with a
Blue line El stop located at Damen and North Ave.
